About Us

The Company

Zocalo Tech, Inc. is a privately funded Austin, Texas EDA company, incorporated in 2006. Zocalo is the Spanish word referring to the town center. Zocalo Tech’s goal is to be the center for expanding the use of Assertion Based Verification (ABV). The focus is software for quick and easy creation, use and reuse of assertion checkers… working seamlessly with any verification flow.

The Zocalo product set, branded under the name Zazz™, has been architected and developed from the ground up with one goal in mind – increased productivity for engineers adopting and utilizing ABV.

Management

Zocalo’s management team represents over 80 years of EDA experience in the areas of software development, customer support, sales and marketing. They were founders of SpeedGate, Inc. an EDA company providing RTL partitioning for FPGA prototyping, SpeedGate was acquired by Mentor Graphics in 2000.

Howard L. Martin, President

Over 30 years of experience in EDA sales and management specializing in early stage startups. He was one of the first salesmen when EDA emerged as a distinct market working for Daisy Systems. After the merger of ECAD and SDA to form Cadence he was Western Area Director. He has also held positions with Recal Redac, Quickturn and Aptix and was VP of Sales at Scientific and Engineering Software (now Hyperformix). He was a founder and President of SpeedGate, Inc.

Martin has a BS in Aeronautical Engineering and MS in Physics from Texas A&M.

Khalil Shalish, Chief Technology Officer

Shalish has 20 years EDA experience at IBM, VSLI Technology and Sigmatel and LSI Logic including chip design and verification, applications support and software development. He was a founder of SpeedGate and the developer of SpeedGate’s product for partitioning designs into multiple FPGAs for prototyping.

Shalish has a B.S. Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and MS in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

David R. Stevens, Vice President Operations

Stevens has over 25 years of engineering and operational experience at TI, Daisy and Cadence and Aptix. At Texas Instruments he managed a team of over 100 engineers developing a major military electronics system. At Daisy Systems, a leading 80's EDA Company, he was General Manager of the Printed Circuit Board Division. He opted to be an individual contributor at Cadence and became an acknowledged expert/instructor in verification technology. This was followed by an emulation consulting engineer position at Aptix. As part of the SpeedGate founding team he was responsible for managing the ongoing technical development after the acquisition.

Stevens has a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri.
